Busy, busy, busy!!!

Boy has this holiday season been busy, busy, busy!!! I did not realize how busy it would be during the holiday season owning your own business. This has been our first official Christmas season, since we are just one year old. Boy was it busy. I have four children ranging in ages from 17 to 1. Each one has their own activities that I have to fit into my already busy day. I also work a full time job while I am trying to start my own business. I love the phrase that working mother is a redundant term!!! I know exactly what it means to be a working mother. You never seem to get a day off. Even when I get a day off from my "regular" job, I don't get a day off from anything else.
We recently found out how much fun craft fairs are for our business and how good they are as well. We did Santa's Market earlier this month, and we ended it with a craft fair at Tabor's here in San Angelo. We did very well at both fairs. The neatest thing about these fairs, is that you get to meet the customers that have been following us to get our soaps and lotions! We get to hear the wonderful stories that they have about our products! That is the neatest thing to know that something that you made is helping someone, or that they simply just love it better than that Wal-Mart brand. It is a great feeling to know that people are starting to know the name of your business and that they want your products.

We recently introduced our hair bow holders to our line of kid's gifts and they were a huge hit! One woman bought two of our hair bow holders at a craft fair. She kept one for her daughter and took the other one as a gift to a birthday party. When one of the other mothers at the birthday party saw the hair bow holder, she asked where the mom bought it. She told her that she got it at the craft show. The mother left the birthday party and came to the craft fair to find us. She has now bought several hair bow holders from us! Another lady ran out of our soap and and she tracked us down at a craft fair just to get more! It is stories like those that make you appreciate all of the hard work that goes into starting your own business. There are many struggles, but it is all worth it to know that someone appreciates the things that you are creating.
Someday I hope to own my own shop. I hope to do this full time. That is what I am working toward. And I believe that I will make it . . . . one step at a time!!!!!!

Santa's not the only one bringing gifts!!!!

Santa's not the only one bringing gifts! Mommy Mogul went to it's first Santa's Market here at Goodfellow Air force base. It was so much fun. It definitely hard work though! We were supposed to go on Friday to set things up. Well, Mommy Mogul is not the only job that I have, I also have another job. I am really wanting this company to become successful enough that I can quit my other job and do my Mommy Mogul job full time! After working eight hard hours on Thursday, I was so tired that I fell asleep and did absolutely nothing to prepare. That was not exactly my plan. My wonderful husband (I am saying that sarcastically right now) let me sleep the whole night away instead of getting ready for the craft fair. Since he didn't want to mess anything up without my help, he didn't do anything either :( . Needless to say, nothing got done on Thursday. Nothing! That was not good. We wound up running around on Friday like crazy people !! :)
Now this was our first craft fair on an air force base. You have to go through a lot of security checks and things of that nature when you are participating at a craft fair on an air force base. I thought it was going to be a lot of trouble to have our car searched by military dogs and then a security force and all of that kind of stuff. It wasn't! Everything went off without a hitch.
It was definitely an experience to go to a show of that magnitude. We were not used to it at all. We have been to some craft fairs, but this one was bigger by far than anything we had experienced. It was a lot of work, but it was so worth it. Everything was done with such professionalism and we loved it. People poured in from the time they opened the doors until the time the doors were closed. There was no down time at all, it was a constant stream of shoppers coming in. I love the vendors that went to this show. It is a community within it self when you are a vendor. People are so friendly and so helpful and you come to realize very quickly that this is a way of life for these people! And I love it! The vendors had some very creative things to sell that I had never seen before. I loved the creativity of the vendors that were at this show. I love to see how different minds work and I love beautiful and unusual things. I got a chance to see them all! This was one of the best weekends I have ever spent.
We have given our soaps a face lift. They look different, but they are the same quality that you have come to expect from Mommy Mogul. I have the most wonderful story that happened to us this weekend while we were at Santa's Market. We have a booth at a store called Jerrolyn's. Our products can be found there everyday if one of our customers needs to buy more. We normally also go to the Chicken Farm, which is a craft fair that is held every first Saturday of the month. We did not go this passed month because we were trying to get ready for Santa's Market. I had heard that the Santa's Market craft show was very big, and I did not know what to expect. So we made more products and we pulled our products from Jerrolyn's on Thursday afternoon to make sure that we had enough products. There was a precious lady that did not see us at the Chicken Farm show and so she went to Jerrolyn's to buy more soap. She didn't see any of our products and so she thought we had gone out of business. The owner of Jerrolyn's told her we were at the Santa's Market craft show. She drove out there and looked all over the place to find us so that she could buy another bar of our soap. She told me how much she loved our Japanese Cherry Blossom soap. It really touched my heart. I love to hear how much our customers love our soap! It touches my heart to hear how much they love our work. It means so much to me, and it never gets old. Thank you everyone for your support!!!!

Gearing up for the holidays

This will be our first holiday season that we are really going to be selling our merchandise. Last year, we had just started our company so we were nowhere near ready for a big holiday push. I really love the holidays! Just the holiday spirit is what I enjoy the most. I love seeing the Christmas decorations out already in the stores. I love Thanksgiving and Christmas. I got a recipe of some of the most delicious cookies from one of my friends at work. The recipe was for pumpkin cookies. Usually when you get a recipe from someone and you try to make it yourself, you find that it doesn't taste as good as theirs. Not so with this recipe. My cookies turned out just as good as hers. I had the wonderful opportunity to make these cookies for another one of my girlfriends and her family. She told me, " they are the best cookies I have ever tasted!"
I want to share this wonderful recipe with you. It is perfect for the upcoming holiday season, or anytime that you want to taste this delicious snack.

Pumpkin Cookies

1 cup shortening
1 cup sugar
1 cup pumpkin pie filling (half of can)
1 egg
2 cups flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup raisins (you can use more or less or none at all)

Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
Mix shortening, sugar, pumpkin, and egg. Blend well. Add the remaining ingredients and mix well. Put on ungreased cookie sheet by the teaspoonful. Cook in a 375 degree oven for 12-15 minutes.

Frosting *optional*

3 Tablespoons Milk
1/2 cup brown sugar
1 cup powdered sugar
3/4 teaspoon vanilla

Melt brown sugar and milk in saucepan over medium heat. When melted, take off of heat. Add powdered sugar and vanilla. Mix well and spoon over cookies. Enjoy!!!!!

We have some wonderful holiday gifts for you to choose from here at Mommy Mogul. Since we were just sharing our pumpkin cookie recipe, I would like to share with you a favorite scent for the holidays. It is called Pumpkin Apple Butter. This fragrance is wonderful. It smells like the holidays and gives you that comfort feeling that you get during the holiday season.

We also have this wonderful candle called cinnamon roll. Even if you don't bake, it will smell like you are creating something wonderful in your oven. This candle is so authentic to freshly baked cinnamon rolls, that you can smell the hint of butter in the fragrance. It has a great throw and will fill your house with that wonderful aroma of freshly baked cinnamon rolls!

These are just a couple of the wonderful innovative gifts that you can find here at Mommy Mogul, during the holidays or any other time.

Dreams really do come true

We are so very excited here at Mommy Mogul. My husband and I are getting ready for our first two day craft fair. It is called Santa's Market and it is at an airforce base. I started our company which is called Mommy Mogul because we needed to make a little extra money. It just took off and we have been making money ever since.
I have been very astonished to find out that people do not know what a mogul is! A mogul is actually a very successful business person. Since my first job is being a mommy to my 4 boys, we decided to call our business Mommy Mogul.

It has really been exciting to learn new things in the business and to create new things to sell.
Our first craft show was actually at a place called the Chicken Farm. We did so very well, that it really encouraged us to continue to make our business grow.
We have put in a countless amount of hours, money, and love into our business. We first started by making diaper cakes. Diaper cakes to baby wipe cases, to towel cakes, to candy cakes, to soaps and lotions, and so much more! We have been perfecting our soaps for quite some time now and we love them-apparently so do our loyal customers! Our family does not buy "regular" soap anymore. We only use Mommy Mogul soaps and lotions. Our skin can tell the difference too! We started our Etsy shop in May of 2008. I joined Etsy in February of 2008 and opened the shop in May. We have been creating beautiful things ever since.

I remember being so afraid to start a business, because I didn't know how to. Now we are growing our business, and one day I hope to not have to work at the job I am currently at. I hope that one day, I will be able to run my business full time.
Dreams are achieved one step at a time!
Dreams really do come true.
